Jon Martino focuses his practice on insurance defense and other complex civil litigation. He represents national insurance carriers, their insureds, third-party administrators, self-insured entities, in matters involving NY Labor Law, premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, product liability, insurance coverage, and other significant liability claims throughout New York State, with a particular concentration in the five boroughs of New York City.
Jon approaches every matter with two complementary objectives: preparing the case from the outset for a successful trial while providing clients with a practical and candid assessment of exposure, litigation costs, and resolution opportunities. Through early investigation and rigorous file analysis, he identifies the critical factual and legal issues, evaluates potential damages, and helps clients make informed strategic decisions concerning early resolution, motion practice, or an aggressive defense through trial.
Before joining Bartlett LLP, Jon served for many years as Senior Counsel and Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Tort Division of the New York City Law Department. In that role, he defended the interests of the City of New York and its agencies, reviewed and evaluated a substantial volume of claims and lawsuits, identified opportunities for resolution, and negotiated settlements when appropriate.
Jon’s litigation experience also includes managing a substantial caseload as in-house counsel for the Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnification Corporation, where he conducted numerous depositions, engaged in extensive motion practice, selected juries, and tried cases to verdict. Earlier in his career, he handled securities, regulatory, and complex commercial matters in both private practice and an in-house capacity.
Jon is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Florida, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey. He has served as a FINRA arbitrator since 2012 and as a FINRA chairperson since 2022.
Jon received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany.
